White Water Rafting: Unveiling The Adventurous Wild Side Of Uganda
Much as many people in foreign countries today still attribute the history of Idi Amin to the pearl of Africa, Uganda is a very safe country and probably the best place to for those interested in adventurous tourist activities. The usually sighted adventurous and thrilling experiences in Uganda most tourists talk about include hiking the snow capped Rwenzori peaks, heading to the equatorial forests of Bwindi impenetrable in search of the rare mountain gorillas leaving out one of the most adventurous tourist activity – white water rafting along river Nile.
Nile River the longest river on the African continent and the world at large begins its journey from lake victoria at Jinja and moves further north pouring its waters in the Mediterranean Sea.
The Nile in its early stages formed a number of rapids at Jinja as the waters dodged the hard rocks. The waters here are very wild however to adventurous tourists the story is quite different as they see it as fun and the best place to pass time. Today many adventurous tourists from different parts of the world head to Jinja to be part of this exclusive experience and indeed they enjoy a lot.
The waters of the Nile are the best waters where one can raft from as they are very clean, warm and the most important thing is that the rafting guides are very good at what they are doing and ensure safety of all people heading for the incredible experience.
Jinja is just 80 kilometers from Kampala Uganda’s capital city and the journey takes about an hour and forty minutes to get there through the thick Mabira forest one of the natural forests in Uganda.
On the day of rafting, all those heading for the adventure head to the starting point where they meet their guide for briefing. While here, tourists are instructed to remove their shoes and leave behind all the valuables like phones and ornaments like necklaces that could easily be lost in the water and then directly head to the ride (rafting boat). In order to prepare all those on the thrilling trip and for the most wild water stages, the rafting guides first demonstrate the basics of how to hold the rafting boat and even how to get back on board incase they are thrown off the boat by the waters.
After the instructions, the adventure starts in the calmer waters and proceeds through different stages of the rapids, which were all given names according to their wild nature however there is no need to worry as there is always a rescue team following behind to rescue all those who are thrown in the water.
Rafting the waters of the Nile is a crazy by exciting activity especially when you encounter the wild waters commonly known as big brother. They are the first rapids encountered after a mild ride. After the experience with the big brother, you then head to the calmer and milder water, which does not last for long as the most thrilling 50-50 just lies ahead. The 50-50 is very wild and at this stage the great force of the water throws you into the water. Those thrown in the water are then helped to get back to the boat and then ride through the mild waters to the finishing points. In order to enjoy white water rafting, its advisable to do it again the next day which is usually also very enjoyable as you are calm and at least some how used to the waters.
White water rafting is very incredible and can be experienced at any time of the year however for remarkable moments, its best to go for it during the dry season around the months of January to February and June to September.
