Uganda Weather & Best Time to Visit
Uganda also called the Pearl of Africa is a landlocked country lying astride the Equator. The country has a very interesting wildlife destination featuring most especially primates watching that lead travelers into the country’s tropical rain forests to visit primates such as the mountain gorillas, chimpanzees and monkeys. The country is blessed with a tropical climate with a high altitude even though it’s located right to the equator. general temperatures in the country vary from 26°C during the day to 16°C at night throughout the year. From the different parts of the country, temperatures and the general climate also differ from the different regions. The Northern parts of Uganda are generally drier and therefore, drought can sometimes affect the areas. However, the Southern part has cool temperatures and receives a lot of rainfall . The presence of a number of tropical rain forests that exist within this region. The Western Region also experiences a wet season given existence of various tropical rain forests and mountains such as the Rwenzori Mountains – the mountains of the moon, a series of volcanic mountains and more. The Eastern regions also has a relatively cool temperatures because of the presence of Mt. Elgon . The central part of Uganda – Buganda Region receive plenty of rainfall but also has a dry season. This part of the country generally has cool temperatures due to the presence of Lake Victoria Africa’s largest fresh water body.
With the climate description above, its very evident that Uganda can be visited all year round since the temperatures are generally cool. There are months when different regions of Uganda experience rainfall but due to the equatorial climate in the country, it can rain almost anytime of the day. Most travelers to Uganda are mostly interested in gorilla trekking, and plan to travel in months with less or no rains and the best months are late december, January and February and early march. This period is generally a dry season and so the forest can be penetrated easily without fear of slippery grounds. This however doesn’t mean that you can’t take a gorilla safari in other months. The trips are very possible and the months of April, May and November, you can enjoy a discount of USD250 per person. During April, May and November, remember to carry your raincoat given that Uganda normally experiences a wet season during these months.
